Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed is once again making headlines after receiving clearance to play for Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred 2026. The talented mystery spinner was picked during the auction for £190,000 and became the only Pakistani player selected by an IPL-owned franchise.
His signing created huge discussions in both India and Pakistan. Many fans were surprised because of the political tensions between the two countries. Several Indian fans also questioned why an India-owned franchise decided to sign a Pakistani player during such a sensitive period.
Abrar was among thirteen Pakistani players registered for the auction. However, he was the only one bought by a franchise. Fast bowler Haris Rauf remained unsold despite expectations around him.
PCB Gives Full-Season NOC To Abrar Ahmed
There were doubts over Abrar’s participation because Pakistan may call him for the Test series against the West Indies. Many believed the Pakistan Cricket Board could refuse to grant him permission to play in The Hundred.
However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has now approved a full-season NOC for the spinner. This means Abrar can fully participate in The Hundred 2026 without restrictions.
The PCB decision has removed all uncertainty surrounding his availability. The board reportedly wanted to support the player’s growth and international exposure while also balancing national commitments.
Despite the clearance, Sunrisers Leeds and owner Kavya Maran continue to face criticism on social media. Many fans remain unhappy with the signing and continue to debate the franchise’s decision online.
Still, Abrar Ahmed’s inclusion adds excitement to The Hundred 2026. Cricket fans will now wait to see how the Pakistani spinner performs in one of the world’s biggest franchise tournaments.
