The race for the IPL 2026 playoffs has entered a dramatic stage after Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets at Chepauk. Following the result, three teams have officially confirmed their places in the playoffs, while five others are still fighting for the last remaining spot.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are currently leading the points table with 18 points from 13 matches. They have already secured a playoff place and are favourites to finish in the top two. A win in their final league game will guarantee them a top-two finish.
Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad have also qualified for the playoffs with 16 points each. Both teams are now aiming to finish in the top two and earn an extra chance to reach the final.
Meanwhile, the fight for the fourth playoff spot remains wide open.
Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals hold advantage
Punjab Kings currently have 13 points from 13 games. They are in the strongest position among the chasing teams. If Punjab win their final match against Lucknow Super Giants, they will move to 15 points and secure qualification.
Rajasthan Royals are also in a good position with 12 points and two games left. Winning both matches will take them to 16 points and seal a playoff berth.
Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals are still alive but need several results to go their way. Both teams must win their final matches and improve their net run rate.
Kolkata Knight Riders remain the dark horse in the race. They still have two matches left and can reach 15 points if they win both games.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants have officially been eliminated from the tournament.
