Indian legend Virat Kohli sends strong message to BCCI over 2027 ODI World Cup future

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has made his feelings clear about his future in One Day Internationals. Speaking on the podcast of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kohli said he does not want to constantly prove himself to selectors and team management.

The former India captain spoke openly about the growing discussions around his place in India’s plans for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup. Kohli said he wants clarity from the selectors instead of repeated questions about his value.

“Either tell me on day one I am not good enough or I am not needed. But if I am made to feel like I need to constantly prove my worth and my value, then I am not in that space,” Kohli said.

Kohli confident about fitness and ODI future

After retiring from T20 Internationals and Test cricket, Kohli now plays only ODI cricket for India. At 37, questions have continued over whether he can remain part of India’s plans until the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.

However, Kohli strongly defended his fitness and preparation levels. He made it clear that he still feels capable of performing at the highest level.

He said his disciplined lifestyle allows him to “run boundary to boundary for 40 overs without complaint.”

Kohli also backed his form with numbers. Last year, he scored 651 ODI runs at an average of 65.1 and hit three centuries. This year, he has already scored another hundred in the format.

The comments are expected to increase pressure on the Board of Control for Cricket in India and selectors. Kohli’s statement suggests he wants full trust and a clear role leading into the 2027 World Cup.

The veteran batter also hinted that if doubts continue around his place, he could choose to walk away from international cricket on his own terms.
