Vinesh Phogat Reveals Identity in Ongoing Brij Bhushan Case, Questions Trial Venue

Olympian Vinesh Phogat has made a big revelation. She said she is one of the six women who filed a sexual harassment complaint against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

She shared this in an emotional video on May 3. This is the first time she has publicly identified herself in the case. The matter is still in court, and testimonies are ongoing.

Vinesh said she did not want to reveal her identity earlier. She referred to legal guidelines and said, “The Supreme Court guidelines say that the identity of any victim should not be revealed, because it concerns their dignity and honour.”

She added, “But today, due to certain circumstances, I want to tell you all something. I did not want to speak while the case is still pending… But I want to say that I myself am one of those six victims who filed a complaint, and our testimonies are still ongoing.”

The main reason behind her decision is the upcoming trials. The Wrestling Federation of India plans to hold them in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. This is known as the stronghold of Brij Bhushan.

Vinesh raised serious concerns about fairness. She said, “He has his own private college, and this competition is being organised there. That every hardworking athlete will get their due there-this is something very unlikely and almost impossible.”

She also questioned control within the federation. According to her, decisions may still be influenced by Brij Bhushan’s close group.

She said, “Who will referee whose match, how many points a referee will give… all of this will be controlled by Brij Bhushan and his people. And the government and our sports ministry are watching this as silent spectators.”

Vinesh also spoke about the mental pressure. “For a woman, competing in such a situation is very difficult, and every athlete who has gone through such a situation can relate to this.”

Her statement has once again raised questions about safety and fairness in Indian wrestling.
