Chennai Super Kings have completed six matches in the IPL 2026 season. However, there is still uncertainty around the return of MS Dhoni. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has not played yet this season due to a calf injury.
Dhoni missed the early part of the tournament. He has been recovering and working on his fitness. The good news for fans is that he has travelled with the CSK squad to Mumbai. The team will face Mumbai Indians on April 23 at the famous Wankhede Stadium.
MS Dhoni travels with squad as injury concerns continue to trouble Chennai Super Kings
There is hope that Dhoni could return for this big match. However, the team management has not confirmed anything yet. CSK batting coach Mike Hussey spoke about Dhoni’s fitness after their recent loss.
Hussey said Dhoni is improving well in his recovery. He also said that Dhoni is batting nicely in the nets. But running between the wickets remains a concern. This is very important for a player who bats in the final overs. Dhoni needs to take quick singles and doubles. So, he must gain confidence in his running.
Hussey added that he is not sure when Dhoni will play. But he hopes it will happen soon. Fans are also eagerly waiting for his return.
Meanwhile, CSK are dealing with several injury problems in their squad. Fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the season due to a quadricep injury. Young player Ayush Mhatre has also picked up a hamstring injury. He will undergo scans in Mumbai.
Earlier, Nathan Ellis was also ruled out. Due to these issues, CSK are looking for replacements. Former Mumbai Indians pacer Akash Madhwal has attended trials with the team. All-rounder Rajvardhan Hangargekar is also expected to join trials soon.
CSK recently lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by ten runs. It was their fourth defeat of the season. They have won only two matches so far.
Now, CSK will look to bounce back against Mumbai Indians. All eyes will be on Dhoni and whether he finally returns to action.
