India Defeat New Zealand by 96 Runs to Win third T20 World Cup Title, list of all Prize winners in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 ended in spectacular fashion as India national cricket team defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs in the final. The match was played at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 8.

With this victory, India became the first team to successfully defend the T20 World Cup title. The Men in Blue also became the first side to win the tournament three times.

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, the Indian openers dominated from the start. Abhishek Sharma played a fearless knock. He scored 52 runs from just 21 balls. His innings included powerful boundaries and sixes.

India’s opening pair added 98 runs in just seven overs. After Abhishek’s dismissal, Sanju Samson continued the attack. He played a brilliant innings under pressure and scored 89 runs from 46 balls.

Samson received good support from Ishan Kishan. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 54 runs from only 25 balls. Together, they added 105 runs in quick time and pushed India to a strong total.

Shivam Dube also played a useful cameo. He remained unbeaten on 26 runs from just eight balls. India finished their innings with a massive score.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Brilliant Bowling Seals the Title

Chasing the huge target, New Zealand started positively. Tim Seifert played an aggressive innings. He scored 52 runs from 26 balls. However, the rest of the top order struggled against India’s bowling attack.

Mitchell Santner fought hard and made 43 runs from 35 balls. But the required run rate kept increasing.

India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a match-winning performance. He took four wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs. These were his best figures in T20 internationals.

New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs. India lifted the trophy and celebrated another historic moment in world cricket.
