Bangladesh women’s cricket team have qualified for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will be held in England later this year. The qualification comes at an important time for Bangladesh cricket.
The country’s men’s teams have faced recent setbacks. The senior men’s side missed the T20 World Cup after boycotting the tournament due to security concerns in India. Scotland replaced them in the event. At the same time, Bangladesh’s Under-19 men’s team failed to reach the semifinals of the ongoing U19 World Cup.
Strong Performance in Nepal Secures Qualification
The women’s team delivered a strong performance in the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2026. The tournament is being played in Nepal. Bangladesh confirmed their qualification during the Super Six stage.
Their place in the World Cup was sealed after a 39-run win over Thailand in Mulpani. The result was helped by the Netherlands’ 21-run DLS victory over the USA. These outcomes ensured Bangladesh finished in the top four teams.
Batting first against Thailand, Bangladesh scored 165 for 8 in 20 overs. Opener Dilara Akter was out for a golden duck. Juwairiya Ferdous and Shobhana Mostary then rebuilt the innings. They added 110 runs for the third wicket. Ferdous scored 56 runs. Mostary made 59 runs.
Thailand struggled during the chase. They were restricted to 126 for 8. Nathakan Chantham scored 44. Naruemol Chaiwai made 30, and Nannapat Koncharoenkeat added 29. Marufa Akter led the bowling with three wickets. Ritu Moni and Shorna Akter took two wickets each. Fahima Khatun claimed one wicket.
Bangladesh now sit on top of the Super Six table with six points and a net run rate of 1.15. They will face Scotland on Friday and the Netherlands on Sunday in Mulpani.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands have also qualified for their first-ever Women’s T20 World Cup. They finished among the top four teams after consistent performances throughout the tournament.
