The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to make changes in its senior men’s selection committee. Two former Indian players, Pragyan Ojha and Rudra Pratap Singh, are leading the race to become new national selectors.
Two positions are now vacant after Subroto Banerjee (Central Zone) and S. Sharath (South Zone) completed their terms. The BCCI had asked for applications last month. Many ex-cricketers applied, but Ojha and Singh are seen as the strongest names.
Former India pacer Praveen Kumar, Uttar Pradesh bowler Ashish Winston Zaidi, and Himachal Pradesh’s Shakti Singh also showed interest. But reports say Ojha and RP Singh are ahead because of their strong qualifications and experience.
Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh To Join Team India’s Selection Panel
RP Singh is a left-arm pacer. He was part of India’s famous 2007 T20 World Cup win under MS Dhoni. He played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs, and 10 T20Is for India.
Pragyan Ojha is a left-arm spinner. He played 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and 6 T20Is. In Tests, he took 113 wickets, including seven five-wicket hauls. Ojha retired in 2020 and now works as a cricket commentator.
The BCCI has clear rules for these posts. A candidate must have played at least seven Tests, or 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches. They should also be retired for at least five years. They must not have worked on BCCI committees for more than five years in total. Both Ojha and RP Singh meet these rules.
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will now look at all the names. The panel includes Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshna Naik. They will interview the shortlisted candidates and then send their recommendations to the BCCI office-bearers.

The final call is likely to be made at the BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) next month.
While only two changes are expected in the men’s panel, the women’s selection committee is set for a full revamp. Neetu David and her team are finishing their terms this month. The BCCI has already asked for fresh applications to rebuild the women’s panel
