India’s Former Wicketkeeper Batsman to Take Over as BCCI’s New President

Former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More is set to become the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sources said that the BCCI has spoken to a few former cricketers from the West Zone. One name from Saurashtra was also discussed. But More has emerged as the clear choice of the state associations.

This comes after Roger Binny stepped down on July 19. Binny resigned after turning 70, which is the age limit for office-bearers in the board. Since his exit, vice-president Rajeev Shukla has been handling the top role.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has also spoken about the elections. The polls were supposed to take place on September 28. But now they may not be held this year. If all states agree, there may be no voting. Instead, a candidate could be appointed unopposed.

Sources told NDTV that the decision will be unanimous. “All state associations are on the same page. The BCCI wants Kiran More as the next president. The final decision will be known soon,” they said.

More was born in 1962. He played for India between 1984 and 1993. He represented the country in 49 Test matches and 94 ODIs. He was part of India’s Asia Cup-winning teams in 1988 and 1991.

Mumbai Indians’ Wicketkeeper Coach Kiran More Becomes Leading Candidate for BCCI’s New President

After his playing career, More moved into cricket management. He served as BCCI’s Chairman of Selectors. In the IPL, he worked as wicketkeeping coach for the Mumbai Indians. In 2019, he joined USA Cricket as Director of Cricket and also acted as interim coach. He helped set up new cricket pathways there after the team gained ODI status.

At present, he is the Chairman of the Cricket Advisory Committee of the Baroda Cricket Association.

If More becomes president, it will be the return of a former player at the top of the BCCI. This move shows the board’s plan to use more cricketing experience in leadership. India will host many big tournaments in the coming years, including the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. More’s role could be very important at this key time for Indian cricket.
