Aakash Chopra Calls IND vs UAE ‘Mismatch’ as India crush UAE in Asia Cup 2025 opener

India made a strong start to their Asia Cup title defence. The Men in Blue defeated hosts UAE by nine wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, September 10. The match ended quickly as India chased a 58-run target in only 4.3 overs.

Earlier, the Indian bowlers bowled out UAE for just 57 in 13.1 overs. It was a complete performance from Suryakumar Yadav’s side.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra said the contest looked one-sided. “It wasn’t a match, it was a mismatch. Both teams together played only 17.4 overs. The match was finished in no time,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma Chase UAE’s Target in 4.3 Overs!

Before the match, some experts had doubts about Shubman Gill’s place in the T20 side. Many felt he plays with a cautious approach. But Chopra was happy to see Gill batting with speed and intent. Gill scored faster than Abhishek Sharma, who had hit a six off the first ball of the innings.

Chopra also questioned UAE’s strategy of starting with a left-arm spinner against Abhishek. “It’s like sending a lamb to the slaughterhouse. Abhishek hit sixes and showed his intent. Gill stayed unbeaten, and Suryakumar Yadav came in and hit a six first ball. This was total domination,” he said.

The Indian batting finished the job in style, underlining the gap between the two sides.

Kuldeep Yadav Shines with 4 Wicket Haul vs UAE in Asia Cup 2025

Kuldeep Yadav was the star performer in his international comeback. The left-arm spinner picked up four wickets for seven runs in just 2.1 overs. Chopra praised his return and said he deserved more chances earlier.

“Kuldeep’s comeback was incredible. He was taking wickets whenever he bowled. People had forgotten his form because he wasn’t playing for India. He did well in the IPL, and he should have played in England,” Chopra said.

Kuldeep’s spin partner Varun Chakaravarthy also supported him well, and Chopra highlighted how dangerous the pair could be in upcoming matches.

India will now look to carry this momentum into their next Asia Cup fixture against Pakistan on September 14 in Dubai.
