Uttarakhand HC Questions BCCI For Spending CAU’s ₹35 Lakhs on Bananas

The Uttarakhand High Court has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to answer petitions about financial irregularities in the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU). The case is about claims of misuse of government funds, inflated bills, and lack of basic facilities for players.

The matter started after Dehradun resident Sanjay Rawat and others filed petitions. They pointed to an audit report of CAU’s accounts for 2024–25. The report was prepared by an external chartered accountant. It showed suspicious spending.

One bill showed INR 35 lakh was spent only on bananas for players. Another head showed INR 6.4 crore under event management fees. The audit also revealed INR 26.3 crore marked as tournament and trial expenses. This was higher than the INR 22.3 crore spent in the previous year.

Players claim they got no benefits‘ – Uttarakhand High Court

The petitioners said state players never received the promised facilities. They claimed that money meant for cricket development and player welfare was used elsewhere. They accused CAU of spending crores on food and logistics while ignoring training facilities, equipment, and player support.

Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari issued notices to BCCI. The court asked the national cricket body to explain its role in oversight.

In another petition, former CAU vice-president Surendra Bhandari raised new allegations. He said the tender for the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL) 2025 was given without a fair bidding process. The league is set to begin on September 23. According to him, the contract went to one company without competition.

He also pointed out that since 2019, when BCCI recognized CAU, the body has received over INR 22 crore in funding. He alleged that much of this money was diverted for personal use. He added that very little was spent on cricket infrastructure or talent development.

The High Court will hear the matter again after BCCI files its reply.
