A shocking theft has come to light from the BCCI office at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. According to the Times of India, IPL 2025 jerseys worth ₹6.5 lakh were stolen. A 40-year-old security guard named Farooque Aslam Khan has been arrested for the crime.
Police said Khan stole 261 jerseys. Each jersey was worth around ₹2,500. The guard reportedly committed the theft to fund his online gambling habit.
The incident happened on June 13, but the theft was discovered later. Officials noticed missing stock during an audit. When they checked CCTV footage, they saw the guard walking away with a box full of jerseys.
The stolen jerseys were of different IPL teams. It is still not clear if they were for players or for public sale.

IPL Jerseys Stolen By BCCI Security Guard to Fund Gambling Addiction
Khan sold the jerseys to an online dealer from Haryana. He had contacted the dealer through social media. The police said that the guard told the dealer that the jerseys were from a stock clearance sale. He claimed it was due to renovation work at the BCCI office.
The guard sent the jerseys by courier. He also received payment directly in his bank account. However, he told police that he lost all the money to online gambling.
“He claims he lost it all to online gambling,” a police source told TOI. The police are now checking his bank records to confirm his story.
So far, 50 out of the 261 stolen jerseys have been recovered. The online dealer who bought the jerseys has been called for questioning. He said he did not know the jerseys were stolen.
The BCCI filed a formal complaint at the Marine Drive Police Station on July 17. The investigation is ongoing.
