IND vs ENG: Ishan Kishan Called as Backup by Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar for Final Test After Rishabh Pant Injury

India’s injury problems are getting worse in the ongoing Test series against England. In the fourth Test, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant incurred a serious injury during the first innings. Pant looked in a good flare and was batting well.

In the 68th over, Pant tried a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes. He missed the shot and the ball hit his toes. Pant was in a lot of pain and could not stand properly. He had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.

A report from The Indian Express quoted a BCCI source. The source said Pant has a fracture and will be out for six weeks. The medical team is checking if he can bat again using painkillers. However, he still cannot walk without help, and it is unlikely that he will bat again in this match.

Ishan Kishan Called for Backup by Team India

This is a big setback for Team India. Earlier in the match, Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first. India had a good start with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. They stayed unbeaten until lunch on Day 1. After lunch, England hit back. Chris Woakes dismissed KL Rahul and India lost two more wickets quickly.

Rishabh Pant and B Sai Sudharsan then tried to build the innings. Both were looking good before Pant got injured. Ravindra Jadeja came in after Pant left, but Sudharsan also fell soon. At the end of the day, Shardul Thakur and Jadeja took India to stumps without further damage.

India is already struggling with multiple injuries. Nitish Reddy is out with a knee injury. Akash Deep has a groin problem. Arshdeep Singh is recovering from a thumb injury. Now, Pant’s injury has added to the trouble.

According to The Indian Express, the selectors have decided to bring in Ishan Kishan. He will join the team for the fifth and final Test, which starts on July 31. His addition is expected to fill the gap left by Pant.
