A major controversy has hit the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. The match between India Champions and Pakistan Champions was cancelled after the Indian team decided to withdraw. The match was scheduled to take place recently, but Indian players chose not to play due to strained political relations with Pakistan.
Several senior Indian players, including Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina, made it clear they would not take part in the game. Other players in the India Champions team also followed the same decision. This led to the cancellation of the high-profile match.
Dhawan shared his thoughts on social media platform X. He wrote, “Jo kadam 11 May ko liya, uspe aaj bhi waise hi khada hoon. Mera desh mere liye sab kuch hai, aur desh se badhkar kuch nahi hota.”
This means, “I stand by the decision I took on May 11. My country is everything for me and nothing is bigger than the country.”
Team India Withdraws from IND vs PAK WCL 2025 Match
Sources from WCL told NDTV Sports that the organisers have informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about the situation. The organisers said the match could not happen due to reasons beyond India’s control. They also clarified that the India Champions team was not at fault.

However, the Pakistan Champions have refused to share points. A source said, “Pakistan Champions team are not willing to share points because they are saying that it is India who backed out, not them.”
As a result, the Pakistan Champions remain at the top of the points table with three points. India Champions are in fourth place with just one point. This is a change from the last WCL edition, where India beat Pakistan in the final by five wickets.
Looking ahead, the India Champions will play against South Africa Champions on July 22 in Northampton. The Pakistan Champions will also face South Africa Champions on July 25. The situation has added tension to the tournament, with fans and officials awaiting further updates.
