BCCI Likely to Decline Sri Lanka Tour Offer for August 2025; When will Virat Rohit Return?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to decline Sri Lanka’s offer to host a white-ball series in August 2025. This offer came after the India-Bangladesh series scheduled for August was postponed.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had proposed to host 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, matching the original Bangladesh tour schedule. But as per reports, the BCCI is not interested in the offer. A report from SportsTak quoted a source as saying, “We will decide about the series but it looks unlikely.”

This means that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will likely not return to ODI cricket until the Australia series in October. The BCCI seems focused on other commitments and may use this break for player rest or training.

Sri Lanka’s Recent Performances in ODIs

Sri Lanka recently hosted Bangladesh for a full tour in June-July 2025. It was a closely fought contest. The Test series had two matches. Sri Lanka won the first, and the second was drawn, giving them a 1-0 series win.

In the ODI series, Sri Lanka won 2-1 after some strong performances with the bat and ball. However, the T20I series ended in Bangladesh’s favour. Sri Lanka won the first match by 7 wickets, but Bangladesh came back strong. They won the second match by 83 runs and the third by 8 wickets, taking the series 2-1.

What’s Next for Team India?

India’s next major focus is the Asia Cup 2025, which is expected to begin on September 5. A high-stakes match against Pakistan is scheduled for September 7. The UAE is being considered as a backup venue.

After that, India will host Australia for 3 ODIs in October, and then play South Africa in November. The postponed Bangladesh series has been moved to September 2026.

Currently, India is playing the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy in England, trailing 2-1 in the five-Test series. The fourth Test starts on July 23 in Manchester.
