Delhi Capitals Set to Reunite with Shreyas Iyer After Rishabh Pant’s Departure

Shreyas Iyer’s future in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has taken a dramatic turn as he is set to re-enter the auction pool ahead of IPL 2025, following his successful tenure with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Despite leading KKR to their third IPL title in 2024 and scoring 351 runs during the season, Iyer was not retained by the franchise, paving the way for a fresh start.

Iyer’s decision to test his market value at the auction comes after KKR’s CEO, Venky Mysore, revealed that the franchise wanted to retain the player but Iyer sought a more prominent leadership role. Iyer’s previous stint with Delhi Capitals (DC) from 2018 to 2022 saw him grow as a captain, although his departure from the team was marked by struggles against the short ball in T20 internationals. However, his remarkable comeback with India in the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, where he scored 530 runs, has solidified his position as one of the most consistent and valuable players in the IPL.

Now, with Delhi Capitals parting ways with Rishabh Pant, sources suggest that DC is set to aggressively pursue Iyer at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Delhi’s co-owners, the GMR Group, who managed the team during Iyer’s successful 2020 season, are reportedly keen on bringing him back as captain, considering their strong professional relationship.

Shreyas Iyer’s IPL journey began with Delhi Capitals in 2015, and after making his India debut in 2017, he became a prominent figure in the team, showcasing his leadership and consistency.
