Chennai Super Kings Announce Retained Players for IPL 2025: MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad Among Key Retentions

The five-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have revealed their retention list for the IPL 2025 mega auction, keeping core players who have been instrumental in recent seasons. Known for their strategic consistency, CSK has retained star players MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, and Shivam Dube. Dhoni, the iconic captain, returns as an uncapped player, valued at INR 5 crore, reaffirming his commitment to CSK for another season.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra Jadeja secured the highest retention slots at INR 18 crore each, while emerging pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana was retained at INR 13 crore. Shivam Dube, retained for INR 12 crore, adds a strong batting option, solidifying CSK’s middle order.

CSK made several significant releases, including foreign players Devon Conway, Moeen Ali, Mitchell Santner, and Mustafizur Rahman, reflecting a shift in their overseas strategy. Additionally, the release of players like Shardul Thakur, Ajinkya Rahane, and Rachin Ravindra marks a strategic move toward younger talent. The management’s focus appears to be on refreshing the squad with promising new players and investing in CSK’s long-term competitiveness.

With a remaining purse of INR 55 crore, CSK will enter the IPL 2025 auction looking to bring in young Indian talents and versatile overseas players to strengthen their lineup further. The retained core aims to guide CSK as they pursue another IPL title in 2025.
