Lucknow Super Giants Reveal Retention List for IPL 2025: KL Rahul Released After Three-Year Tenure

In a surprising turn of events, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have revealed their IPL 2025 retention list, notably excluding former captain KL Rahul after three seasons with the franchise. The move follows speculation about Rahul’s exit, particularly after a heated exchange with LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was spotted following a heavy loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024. On October 31, LSG confirmed the shake-up, retaining just five players from their squad.

Among the retained stars is West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran, valued at Rs 21 crore, following his consistent performances. Fast bowler Mayank Yadav, despite some injury setbacks, was retained for Rs 11 crore, signaling the franchise’s belief in his potential. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi, a reliable figure in LSG’s lineup, remains on board at Rs 11 crore as the team continues to rely on his steady bowling prowess.

LSG also retained two uncapped players—Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni—both valued at Rs 4 crore. The team sees these young talents as crucial investments for the future, hoping to develop their skills further in the coming season.

With a remaining purse of Rs 69 crore, LSG enters the IPL 2025 auction seeking to fill key gaps left by major releases, including international stars Quinton de Kock, Marcus Stoinis, and Mark Wood. An RTM (Right to Match) card will be available to LSG in the auction, offering one more opportunity to retain talent.

LSG Retained Players for IPL 2025:
1. Nicholas Pooran (Rs 21 cr)
2. Ravi Bishnoi (Rs 11 cr)
3. Mayank Yadav (Rs 11 cr)
4. Mohsin Khan (Rs 4 cr, Uncapped)
5. Ayush Badoni (Rs 4 cr, Uncapped)
