The Women’s Selection Committee has revealed the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, slated to be held on October 24, 27, and 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This series is crucial for the Indian women’s cricket team as they gear up for the ODI World Cup 2025, following their disappointing exit from the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.
After failing to qualify for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup, the Indian team is looking to bounce back with a strong performance in this ODI series. New talents like Gujarat Giants’ Sayali Satgare, Priya Mishra, and UP Warriorz’s Saima Thakor have earned their maiden call-ups to the national side, thanks to their impressive showings in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024.
Maharashtra’s Tejal Hasabnis also finds a place in the squad after her consistent performances for India A in Australia, where she registered three half-centuries. These inclusions reflect the team’s focus on nurturing new talent as they build towards the upcoming World Cup.
In contrast, experienced pacer Pooja Vastrakar has been rested due to a minor injury, while leg-spinner Asha Sobhana is unavailable for selection as she continues her recovery from a knee injury sustained during the T20 World Cup. Additionally, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh will miss the series due to her academic commitments.
Team India last played an ODI series against South Africa in June 2024, where they secured a 3-0 victory. Players like Priya Puniya, Saika Ishaque, and Shabnam Shakil, who performed well in that series, have been retained in the squad for this face-off against New Zealand.
