India has once again showcased its growing strength in para-sports, delivering an outstanding performance at the Paralympics 2024 in Paris. With numerous athletes excelling across various disciplines, the nation has added several medals to its tally, marking one of its most successful campaigns in Paralympic history.
Leading the charge was Praveen Kumar, who clinched gold in the men’s high jump T64 final, setting a new Asian record with a remarkable jump of 2.05 meters. His historic achievement has put India in the spotlight on the global stage.
Hokato Hotozhe Sema also brought glory to the nation by winning a bronze medal in the men’s shot put F57 event. His throw of 14.55 meters secured a spot on the podium, further adding to India’s growing reputation in para-athletics.
Meanwhile, India’s medal haul in shooting was boosted by the stellar performance of Avani Lekhara, who secured a silver medal in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event. Lekhara, who won gold at the Tokyo Paralympics, continued to shine, bringing home another prestigious medal.
In badminton, Suhas Yathiraj displayed his dominance by winning a bronze medal in the men’s singles SL4 category. His consistent performances throughout the tournament earned him a well-deserved place on the podium.
India’s swimmers also contributed to the medal tally, with Niranjan Mukundan securing a silver medal in the men’s 50m butterfly S7 event, showcasing the country’s growing prowess in aquatic sports.
