Notably, Shafali Verma, who recently led the India U19 team to a World Cup victory, has secured her spot in the senior team. Jemimah Rodrigues, known for her consistent performances in the middle order, also finds a place in the squad, along with Deepti Sharma, who has been a crucial all-rounder for India.

The pace attack will be spearheaded by Renuka Singh, while the spin department will rely on the duo of Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Radha Yadav, who have been mainstays in India’s bowling lineup. Sneh Rana, an experienced off-spinner, returns to the squad, adding depth to the spin attack.

One of the notable inclusions is Richa Ghosh, the young wicketkeeper-batter who has impressed with her power-hitting abilities in the shortest format. Her inclusion adds firepower to India’s batting lineup.

The squad announcement also sees the return of Poonam Yadav, the leg-spinner who was instrumental in India reaching the finals of the 2020 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, seasoned pacer Shikha Pandey has been left out, with the selectors opting for a younger pace battery.

India will begin their World Cup campaign on January 5, 2024, and are placed in a competitive group alongside Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and one of the qualifying teams. With a balanced squad in place, India will be hopeful of making a strong impact in the tournament and securing their maiden T20 World Cup title.
