Almost 2.5 years after it was declared that a sports college for women would be constructed in\u00a0Udham Singh Nagar, authorities have identified the land for it and a detailed project report has also been sent to the state government for its acceptance.<\/p>\n

The sports college for women, a first in Uttarakhand, is suggested to be constructed on a 65-acre land in Rajpura village of the district’s Kichha town.<\/p>\n

The construction is expected to be completed in 2 years. The approximated cost of the project is \u20b9 20 crore.<\/p>\n

SDM Kichha Kaushtubh Mishra stated, \u201cIdentifying a land piece big enough for the college was challenging. After much research, we selected a 65-acre land in the Prag Farm of Rajpura. Besides the sports college, the administration is also planning to build an industrial estate and a modernised jail in the Prag Farm area.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement of the sports college was made in January 2020 by the then chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. Afterwards, when Pushkar Singh Dhami assumed the office, he directed all sub-divisional magistrates to recognize land for the project.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe proposed college — to be constructed at \u20b9 20 crore — would be the first such college exclusively for women in the hill state.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt would have accommodation for 300 sportswomen and they will be trained for sports like hockey, badminton, cricket, judo, and taekwondo, among others,\u201d stated Akhtar\u00a0Ali, the district sports officer.<\/p>\n

He further said, \u201cGirls will be admitted to this college from class VI onwards. Admissions would be made after physical trials and exams.
