The West Indies team has incurred a huge blow with opening batsman Brandon King doubtful for the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2024. King suffered a side strain during the team’s recent match against England in St. Lucia on June 19.
King had provided an aggressive start for the West Indies, scoring a brisk 23 off 21 balls, including a massive 101-meter six off English pacer Reece Topley. However, his innings was abruptly cut short when he injured himself attempting a shot over the covers off Sam Curran on the next ball. King collapsed on the field in pain, prompting immediate medical attention and being declared retired hurt.
An official statement from Cricket West Indies, as reported by ESPNcricinfo, confirmed that Brandon King would not return to the field to help defend the team’s target of 181 runs and would remain under medical supervision.
