The first two ICC Cricket World Cups qualifiers and champions, West Indies have unfortunately been knocked out of the qualifiers for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The most destructive team of all time, West Indies has failed to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup for the first time in the history of the sport and tournament.
The West Indies cricket team failed to seal a victory against Scotland, which ultimately led to their elimination from the global event to be conducted in India from 5 October 2023.
The Caribbeans lost the game to Scotland by seven wickets in a shocking turn of events considering their incredible history in the ICC Cricket World Cup Tournament.
The West Indies cricket team won the first ever ICC Cricket World Cup in 1975 and later on defended their title of champions after four years in 1979. Having produced cricket legends such as Sir Viv, Richards, Brian Lara, Chris, Gayle, and many more, the elimination of the West Indies cricket team from the championship has been shocking to the world.

Shai Hope and Jason Holder on the West Indies team’s elimination from ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
“There is not one thing I can put my finger on. We let ourselves down in the entire tournament. We have to look at the way we start our innings. We knew conditions would be in the bowlers’ favour and every captain would have elected to field first. We needed to find ways to negate the early morning movement, but we can’t look at the past, we have to look forward and find ways to get better,” said the West Indies Skipper Shai Hope in the post-match conference after being defeated by Scotland.
“We knew what was at stake and we still had a chance to qualify. We had a really good opportunity to play Scotland and beat them (but) we didn’t do that. This is probably one of the lowest points I’ve had with the team. But, you know, there are still a lot of positives. I was really happy for Nicholas Pooran, the way he played through this entire competition. And, it’s good to see some of the younger guys get an opportunity on the big stage,” said West Indies all-rounder, Jason Holder in the post-match conference after being defeated by Scotland.
