‘Virat Kohli Likely to Lead RCB in IPL 2025,’ Hints AB de Villiers

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) icon AB de Villiers has sparked speculation about Virat Kohli reclaiming the captaincy for IPL 2025. Kohli, who stepped down from the role after IPL 2021 to manage his workload, could once again lead the team as no strong alternative has emerged following the recent auction.

RCB finalized a 22-member squad during the IPL 2025 auction but left fans guessing about their captain. While experienced players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya have leadership credentials, neither has led an IPL team full-time. This makes Kohli the prime candidate to take the reins.

RCB Legend Sparks Speculation Over Kohli’s Captaincy Comeback

Speaking on his YouTube channel, de Villiers shared his thoughts, saying, “I don’t think it has been confirmed yet, but he will be the captain, I think, looking at the squad.” Kohli has occasionally stepped in as interim captain since relinquishing the position, keeping his leadership skills sharp.

De Villiers also praised RCB’s auction strategy, highlighting the team’s strong pace unit. “We got Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and I’m happy with Josh Hazlewood. Missing out on Kagiso Rabada was disappointing, but securing Lungi Ngidi is a big positive,” he said. However, he expressed concern about the lack of a high-quality spinner despite the inclusion of all-rounder Krunal Pandya.

As fans eagerly await the official captaincy announcement, Kohli’s return could reignite hopes for RCB’s elusive IPL title. With a strong squad and Kohli’s leadership experience, RCB looks poised for an exciting season ahead.
