]]>India put a low score on the board as all the batters collectively put runs together. The opening batters Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had a low partnership as they scored 47 and 4 runs each off 31 and 7 deliveries.
The middle order batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul added to the team’s score and scored 54 and 66 off 63 and 107 balls. India gave Australia a target of 241 runs and got three early wickets in the powerplay.
However, Australia’s top order batsman Travis Head stuck to the pitch like a magnet and scored 137 runs off 120 balls. Australia chased the low target of 241 runs in just 43 overs and won the game by 6 wickets.
“I think we saved our best for last. Couple of big match players stood up, and we’re pretty stuffed. We’ve been batting first pretty much for the whole tournament, today we thought, it’s a good night to chase down, we thought it might actually get a little bit easier. Everyone was pretty keen to get out there. It was a bit slower than I thought, didn’t particularly spin probably as much as we thought either”, said Pat Cummins.

“Everyone adjusted pretty well and bowled some tight lines. On a slow wicket like that with variable bounce, we thought a couple of catchers on leg-side, you got to score in ODI cricket, so put a few catchers there and make them make a couple of decisions”, he added.
]]>South Africa made a difficult job for Australia to chase the low target of 213 runs by consistently taking wickets however, the low order batters helped Australia win the game by three wickets. In the postmatch ceremony, Pat Cummins said,“I think it was easier out there than sitting in the dugout. Nerve-wracking couple of hours but it was good to get the result. Wasn’t expecting Starc and Hazlewood to bowl so much early. We knew it was going to spin later on but there was a bit of cloud cover so wasn’t too disappointed about bowling first.”
“We talk a lot about our fielding, probably wasn’t up to standard at the start of the tournament but we were fantastic today. Specially Warner who’s 37. Travis Head was the man today, to take that crucial wicket in the middle overs. Inglis played that beautifully, he looked in total control out there, especially against two quality spinners”, he added.
“Few of us have played in a final before, couple of other guys in a T20 World Cup final, the stadium is going to be packed, mostly going to be one-sided but it’s about embracing it. 2015 World Cup was a career-highlight, so to be playing another final in India, we are very happy as an unit, can’t wait”, he said.

Currently Australia stands on the ninth position of the points table which is the one of the most poor performance by the team in the tournament.
India beat Australia by 6 wickets in first match of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
“I thought Quinton (de Kock) batted really well, couldn’t get a breakthrough. From where they were, we were quite happy with 310, thought it was chaseable. Looked like hard work out there tonight, their bowlers bowled really well, think it nipped around a bit more under lights. (On if it would’ve been easier to bat first) Really hard to say, if we want to be challenging in this tournament we need to find ways of performing regardless of batting first or second. Don’t think much needs to be said tonight, everyone’s hurting, we’ll try and take a couple of days off and then make amends to come back stronger in the next one. There’s a few things we need to tidy up”, said Pat Cummins in the post match ceremony.
