Cricket Australia makes changed to the squad; calls back 6 squad members
Australia’s Glenn Maxwell scored 104 runs off 48 balls and the captain Matthew Wade gave the final touches to win the first match of the series.
“The plan was to get Maxi out as quickly as possible. To defend 220 with so much dew, have to give something to the bowlers. Australia were always in the game. Told the boys we’ll try and get him (Maxwell) out quickly but it didn’t happen, it was insane. Axar is an experienced bowler, thought there’s always a chance for an experienced bowler even if it’s a spinner when there’s dew. Very proud of my boys”, Suryakumar Yadav said in the post match ceremony.
Glenn Maxwell, the Player of the Match said, “It all went pretty quickly. It was hard work for them to bowl yorkers with so much dew. We didn’t really have a number in mind. Knew we would be in the game if we could take it down to the final over. Wade had to be out there to cash in with Axar having one over left towards the end. Wade was brilliant out there, the way he went helped me as well.”

Glenn Maxwell was awarded as the Player of the match in the post match ceremony and he talked about the difficult situation on the field, he said, “It was hot while fielding today, I haven’t done a lot of exercise in the heat, it got a hold on me today. I wanted to stay back and get some movement (on my legs). Not too much (when asked about plans at 92/7), just stick to the batting plans as much as possible, for me, still be positive, still look to play my shots, that LBW, it was going just above (the stumps), probably that made me be more proactive.”
“ A hint of swing and nip (off the surface), as it happens here under lights, they bowled beautifully to exploit that. It would have been nice if it was a chanceless knock, but I had my chances, to make the most of it tonight was something I can be proud of. Amazing, after the first two games, people were quick to write us off. The belief was always there (as a team), after today, it would have gone a bit higher”, added Maxwell.
]]>Australia’s Head coach Andrew McDonald recently told the press that Glenn Maxwell fell from the back of the car which game concussion on the back of his head, and Maxwell will be following the concussion protocols for next few days. However, Andrew couldn’t reveal which player will replace Maxwell in the squad for the game against England.
Virat Kohli was recently awarded as the ‘Best Fielder of the Match’ against Australia
“The guys were ferried off on carts. Glenn and a few other players jumped on the back of carts and unfortunately he lost his grip on the way back to the team bus and sustained that injury. Over the last couple of days he’s been assessed. We feel as though it’ll be a relatively straightforward return to play protocol with where he’s at at the moment”, said McDonald.
“There’ll be no replacement (in the squad) as such, he’ll go into six to eight days concussion protocol. So they said that taking into account the England game, he’ll be unavailable for that game. And then clearly within the squad we’ve got some players who become available, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green’s there available as well, but we haven’t made that decision as yet”, he added.
