SRH Sign Gerald Coetzee as Replacement for Injured David Payne in IPL 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for David Payne for the rest of the Indian Premier League 2026. Payne has been ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury.

The left-arm pacer played two matches this season. He picked up two wickets. However, his injury forced the team to find a replacement in the middle of the tournament.

SRH deal with injuries but receive boost

Coetzee is a right-arm fast bowler from South Africa. He brings good international experience. He has played four Tests, 14 ODIs, and 18 T20Is. He has taken a total of 67 wickets across formats.

In the IPL, Coetzee has played 14 matches before. He represented Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians. He picked up 15 wickets in those games. SRH have signed him for INR 2 crore for the remainder of the season.

SRH have also faced other injury problems. England allrounder Brydon Carse was ruled out before the season. He suffered a hand injury during a net session. He did not play any matches.

To replace him, SRH signed Dilshan Madushanka. The Sri Lankan pacer joined the squad earlier this season.

There is some positive news for the team. Captain Pat Cummins has been cleared to return. He had missed matches after scans on his back in Sydney. He is yet to play this season. He may return against Rajasthan Royals on April 25 in Jaipur.

SRH are currently fifth in the points table. They have won two out of five matches. They will next face Chennai Super Kings on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

SRH started their season with a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Then they beat Kolkata Knight Riders. After that, they lost to Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings. They then bounced back with a win over Rajasthan Royals.
