Women’s Premier League 2023’s costliest player Smriti Mandhana has been supported by Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry. Mandhana is currently battling for every run. Parry has supported him saying that he just needs one chance to play big innings in the T20 tournament.
Mandhana has been bought in WPL for Rs 3.4 crore. He has so far scored 35, 23, 18 and 04 runs in four matches of the tournament in which the team has faced defeat. “Knowing Smriti, I can say that she is a very responsible player, she is taking too much pressure on herself,” Perry said after the 10-wicket defeat by UP Warriors here on Friday.
Indian team vice-captain Mandhana is leading a star-studded RCB team which includes players like Perry, Sophie Devine and Heather Knight. Six-time T20 World Cup winner Parry hoped that Mandhana would get out of this phase soon. He said, ‘Playing in a new tournament with players you have never played before and mixing with everyone in such a short time. I think he is a wonderful captain. He just needs a chance to play big innings in the tournament.
On the other hand, taking responsibility for the team’s poor performance, Mandhana said, ‘In the last four matches, this is happening. We start well and then keep losing wickets. I also take responsibility for it. He said, ‘Bowlers need some runs on the score-board to defend. We are trying to make a balanced team. See how it is.’ (with language input)
