Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has become the first captain in 27 years to lose a bilateral ODI series against Sri Lanka. The Indian cricket team and Sri Lanka faced off in a white-ball series, comprising three T20s and three ODIs. While the men in blue managed a draw in the T20 series, they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the ODI series against the Lanka Lions.
After the first match of the series ended in a draw, India struggled in the second innings of both the remaining matches, losing by 32 and 110 runs, respectively.

In the post-match conference, Rohit Sharma acknowledged that the Indian batters were not brave enough to handle the challenges posed by the Sri Lankan spinners. He expressed confidence that the team will work on their flaws and bounce back stronger.
“On such wickets, you have to try and keep having left-right combinations. At the end of the day, it’s important to take on the game on such pitches, where the ball is spinning and scoring is tough. You need to be a little brave. I don’t think we were brave enough throughout the series to put them under pressure a little bit. We were behind in that aspect,” Sharma stated after India’s defeat in the third ODI against Sri Lanka.
Sharma further emphasized the importance of addressing the team’s weaknesses to be better prepared for future challenges in similar conditions.
“There are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives from this series because we need to be better prepared when we come across such conditions next time. These things happen, series loss is not the end of the world, you will lose an odd series here and there but it is about how you come back after the loss,” Sharma said during the presentation ceremony.
Despite the overall poor performance, Rohit Sharma stood out, aggregating 157 runs in three innings at an average of 52.33 and a strike rate of 141.44.
India is now looking ahead to their next away series in Sri Lanka, aiming to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger.
