Roma Sack Manager Daniele De Rossi After Just Four Matches in Serie A

In a shocking move, AS Roma have parted ways with manager Daniele De Rossi after just four matches into the new Serie A season. The decision follows Roma’s winless start, with three draws and a disappointing home defeat to Empoli. Roma currently sit 16th in the Serie A standings, their latest setback being a 1-1 draw against Genoa on Sunday.

De Rossi, who took over in January, replaced José Mourinho and initially brought a resurgence to the team. Under his leadership, Roma lost just one of their first 11 league games, propelling them from ninth to fifth in the standings. His impressive start saw Roma secure a spot in the Europa League after finishing sixth in Serie A last season. De Rossi also guided the team to the Europa League semi-finals, where they were knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen.
‘The club’s decision has been made in the interest of the team’ – Roma Club Says in a Statement
However, the poor start to the current campaign has led Roma’s management to make the difficult decision to relieve De Rossi of his duties. The club issued an official statement expressing gratitude for De Rossi’s efforts and explaining their decision.

“The club’s decision has been made in the interest of the team, to quickly get back on track with the season still in its early stages. To Daniele, who will always have a home at Roma, we offer our heartfelt thanks for his passionate and dedicated work over the past months,” the statement read.

De Rossi’s managerial stint followed an illustrious 22-year playing career at Roma, during which he made 616 appearances and was part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning squad.

Roma were active in the summer transfer window, signing La Liga’s top scorer Artem Dovbyk from Girona and veteran defender Mats Hummels. However, they also saw several key departures, including Chris Smalling to Al-Fayha, Tammy Abraham to AC Milan, and Romelu Lukaku to Napoli.
