The Pakistan Super League will overlap with the Indian Premier League for the third straight year. The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that PSL 2027 will be played from March 18 to May 2.
The decision was taken after the PSL governing council failed to agree on a scheduling window. The PCB then asked all eight franchises to vote between the March-May and January-February options. A majority of the teams backed the March-May window.
The decision means the PSL will once again run alongside the IPL. The overlap first began in 2025 after ICC events forced the Pakistan league away from its traditional February-March schedule.
Why PSL 2027 will be played in March and May
There were commercial reasons for considering a January-February window. Walee Technologies, which owns the PSL broadcast rights until 2029 and also owns new franchise Rawalpindiz, raised concerns about advertising revenue.
However, the January-February option also created major logistical problems. Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi are all located in Punjab. Winter fog in the region can seriously affect visibility and make matches difficult to stage.
Ramadan was another factor. Ramadan is expected to begin in early February and end in early March in 2027. Holding the later stages of the PSL during the holy month could create additional scheduling challenges.
The PSL traditionally took place in February and March from its first season in 2016 until 2024. The tournament moved to an April-May window in 2025 because of the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup.
The PCB has not yet confirmed the venues for PSL 12. Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi have traditionally hosted most matches. Faisalabad and Peshawar were also used during PSL 10.
The 2027 season will therefore continue the recent scheduling pattern, with the PSL and IPL taking place at the same time.
