Antigua and Barbuda Falcons won their first Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title on September 20, 2026. They defeated Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets in the final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.
The Falcons chased down 171 with 20 balls to spare. Amir Jangoo scored an unbeaten 57, while Hasan Nawaz remained not out on 47. Captain Moeen Ali played a key role throughout the tournament. The former Chennai Super Kings star also revealed how lessons from MS Dhoni influenced his approach to T20 captaincy.
Moeen Ali’s experiences with CSK help him in CPL
Moeen spent four seasons with Chennai Super Kings from 2021 to 2024. During that period, he won two IPL titles under Dhoni, in 2021 and 2023.
Moeen said watching Dhoni manage the CSK squad changed how he viewed leadership. He highlighted the importance of keeping experienced players and youngsters together while making sure everyone worked towards the same goal.
“I learnt a lot from MS about the importance of having lesser good players but getting everyone on the same page. CSK had a great blend of more experienced players and less youngsters. There weren’t so many meetings. MS Dhoni used to say batting meetings should be done in practice. The other thing I learnt from him is you have six bowlers generally in T20s, and it’s not about whom to bowl; it’s about who not to bowl. That changed my whole mindset on captaincy,” Moeen said on the Super Over Podcast.
Moeen’s leadership helped the Falcons complete a memorable campaign. The franchise won the CPL title in only its third season.
In the final, Jamaica Kingsmen posted 170 for nine. Maaz Sadaqat smashed 114 from 58 balls, but Sufyan Moqim’s four-wicket haul for 14 runs restricted the Kingsmen.
The Falcons then completed the chase in 16.4 overs. Jangoo and Nawaz finished the job without losing another wicket.
Shadab Khan was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 132 runs and taking 11 wickets. Team mentor Curtly Ambrose was also part of the Falcons’ successful campaign.
