The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking the second consecutive time the event is held outside the Indian subcontinent. Following last year’s auction in Dubai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chose Jeddah as the next overseas venue over competing locations like Dubai, Singapore, and Vienna. Scheduled for November 24-25, the event underscores the league’s growing global appeal.
BCCI sets the stage for another historic overseas IPL auction
BCCI officials recently completed an inspection of the Jeddah venue, preparing for this significant two-day auction. Franchises, meanwhile, have already set the stage by unveiling their player retention lists on October 31, locking in a combined total of 46 players worth INR 558.5 crore. Indian players dominate this list with 36 retained, including 10 uncapped talents, ensuring a core of promising young players.
Major names entering the auction pool include global stars such as Jos Buttler, Glenn Maxwell, Faf du Plessis, along with Indian powerhouses like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer. The release of these key players, particularly Iyer from Kolkata Knight Riders and Pant and Rahul from Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, adds valuable leadership options for teams seeking experienced captains.
The mega auction faces a logistical overlap with India’s first Test against Australia in Perth, running from November 22-26. However, the time difference may help mitigate scheduling conflicts. As the auction date approaches, franchises await official confirmation from the BCCI to finalize travel and logistics.
