Indian fielding coach T Dilip has praised the Indian cricket team’s outstanding fielding display during their dominant 280-run victory over Bangladesh in the first Test of the ongoing series. As India prepares for the second Test in Kanpur, starting September 27, Dilip highlighted the team’s sharpness and commitment on the field in a recent BCCI video.
Dilip commended the team’s overall fielding effort, especially acknowledging Virat Kohli’s energy and KL Rahul’s precise slip fielding. He emphasized that Kohli’s intensity in practice is always mirrored in the game.
The intensity he brings to matches is always replicated in his practice sessions – T Dilip on Virat Kohli
“With Virat Kohli, what you got is. There’s not much difference between the way he practices and how he plays. The intensity he brings to matches is always replicated in his practice sessions,” said Dilip.
He also applauded KL Rahul’s catch in the slip, which required sharp focus and impeccable timing.
“KL Rahul’s catch in the slip was a good one as he followed the ball and caught it behind his bodyline. It was a great example of following the ball properly, getting his fingers under the dipping ball, and timing his forward jump perfectly,” Dilip explained.
The fielding coach then turned his attention to the younger players, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, who both put in stellar performances.
“It was one of the best catches you could have seen,” Dilip remarked about Jaiswal’s stunning one-handed catch. “Towards his non-dominant side, running forward with the ball dipping fast—he took it with one hand, an absolute blinder for a gully fielder.”
He also praised Gill, calling him a “terrific all-round fielder” both in close-in and outfield positions.
With a strong first Test victory, India has solidified its position in the World Test Championship standings, strengthening their chances for the final.
