India to Host T20 Asia Cup 2025; Bangladesh to Host the next edition in 2027

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced that India will host the Asia Cup in 2025, marking the return of the tournament to Indian soil after more than two decades. The 2025 edition will be played in the T20 format, aligning with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in India in 2026. Bangladesh has been selected to host the 2027 edition, which will be played in the ODI format to align with the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in South Africa later that year.

India last hosted the Asia Cup in 1990-91, making the upcoming 2025 tournament a significant event as it returns to one of cricket’s most passionate nations. This decision follows India’s triumph in the 2023 Asia Cup, where they clinched their eighth title by defeating Sri Lanka in the final. The 2023 tournament was held in a hybrid model in Pakistan and Sri Lanka due to political tensions preventing India from traveling to Pakistan.

The participating teams for the 2025 Asia Cup will include Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and one non-Test playing member, determined through a qualification process. In the 2023 edition, Nepal made its debut in the tournament, adding a fresh dimension to the competition.

Bangladesh to host Asia Cup 2027 in ODI Format ahead of World Cup in South Africa

The ACC’s official statement defined the Men’s Asia Cup as a biennial senior men’s cricket tournament featuring designated member teams, including Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and one qualifier from the non-Test playing members of the ACC.

The 2027 Asia Cup in Bangladesh will be strategically scheduled to prepare teams for the ODI World Cup later in the year. Both the 2025 T20 and 2027 ODI editions of the Asia Cup will feature 13 matches each, ensuring a competitive and engaging tournament for cricket fans across the continent.

With India and Bangladesh set to host these prestigious events, the Asia Cup promises exciting cricketing action and a platform for regional cricketing excellence over the next few years.
