Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has recently commended India’s stellar performance against England in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024.
The Indian team, aiming to avenge their previous edition’s semi final defeat, secured a dominant victory by 68 runs against England in the knockout clash last night.
India set a competitive target of 171 runs at the end of 20 overs, losing seven wickets in the process. Despite early dismissals of key players Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, Skipper Rohit Sharma and attacking batter Suryakumar Yadav anchored the innings for the team, forging a crucial partnership to bolster India’s total.
Rohit Sharma scored 57 runs off 39 deliveries, while Suryakumar Yadav contributed 47 runs from 36 balls. Together, they hit 10 boundaries and four sixes, solidifying India’s position in the match.
Former Cricketer Aakash Chopra lauds Suryakumar Yadav for his consistency in leading India towards Finals
In a deep analysis on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra highlighted Suryakumar Yadav’s adaptation to challenging pitches in the USA and West Indies. Although Yadav initially struggled especially against Pakistan, he found his rhythm during the Super 8s stage, playing pivotal innings for the team.
Chopra noted, “Suryakumar Yadav played a significant knock. It was crucial. He scooped Chris Jordan for a six and handled spin effectively. Despite falling short of a half-century, his contribution was vital. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, both Mumbai Indians teammates, showcased excellent synergy, pushing India to a secure total.”
Chopra emphasized the difficulty of the pitches where Yadav scored his runs. “Yadav didn’t have a great start to the tournament, facing criticism after getting out against Pakistan. However, he bounced back, scoring fifties in two matches and delivering essential runs in the semifinals. The pitches he excelled on weren’t easy,” he added.
With this comprehensive win, India has booked their berth in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024. They aim to break their 10-year ICC trophy drought in the final against South Africa on June 29.
