T20 World Cup: ‘I have told them I will go up’ – Arshdeep Singh Rising Confidence in Batting After Stellar Bowling Performance

In a recent match against the United States of America, young Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh showcased his exceptional bowling prowess by taking four wickets while conceding just nine runs. Arshdeep expressed newfound confidence in his batting abilities after scoring 9 off 13 deliveries and shared details of a conversation with skipper Rohit Sharma about promoting him up the batting order against Pakistan.

Traditionally, bowlers bat lower in the order and tend to focus more on their bowling skills, often neglecting batting practice. This can make it challenging for them to contribute runs in critical situations. However, Arshdeep has shown significant confidence in his batting, believing he can make valuable contributions for the team when needed.

‘I am very confident about my batting’ – Arshdeep Singh

Reflecting on his batting skills for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, Arshdeep revealed that during a crucial match against Pakistan, he requested to bat ahead of the experienced Jasprit Bumrah. His performance added crucial runs to India’s total, helping secure a thrilling victory.

Arshdeep discussed, “Jassi bhai (Bumrah) was supposed to go before me, but I just went in after asking Rohit bhai (Sharma). They were surprised with it, but now I have told them I will go up regardless of whatever you say. I will go at nine because I faced the quickest bowlers in the last game. So yeah, that’s the plan now. I am very confident about my batting. And be it fielding or bowling, you just try to keep getting better.”

Arshdeep’s confidence in his batting abilities is a promising sign for the Indian cricket team. In situations where the top and middle-order batters fail, his readiness to step up as a lower-order batsman can provide a significant boost. This added dimension to his game could be crucial in high-pressure matches, making him a more versatile and valuable player for India in the T20 World Cup 2024.
