England Announce Squad for White-Ball Series Against Australia, Drop Key Players

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the squad for the highly anticipated white-ball series against Australia, set to kick off with a three-match T20I series followed by a five-match ODI series. This series serves as a crucial preparation for both teams ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Jos Buttler, who has been recovering from a calf injury that sidelined him from The Hundred, will lead both the T20I and ODI squads. His return is a significant boost for England, as they aim to fine-tune their lineup against their archrivals.

In a surprising move, the ECB has decided to drop experienced players Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, and Chris Jordan from both squads. The board has instead opted to infuse fresh talent, naming five uncapped players in the T20I squad: Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell, Dan Mousley, Josh Hull, and John Turner. These players have earned their spots through impressive performances in domestic cricket.

Jofra Archer Marks His Return in Australia’s Tour of England

Jofra Archer, the dynamic fast bowler, makes a much-anticipated return to the ODI squad after being out of action since March 2023. Archer, who has been under close monitoring due to his injury history, is expected to be a key figure in England’s bowling attack.

Key players like Harry Brook, Matthew Potts, Gus Atkinson, and Jamie Smith, currently engaged in the Test series against Sri Lanka, will join the team for the ODIs. However, they will miss the T20I series due to its close scheduling with the Test series.

England will be without the services of Mark Wood and Ben Stokes, both ruled out due to injuries. Wood is sidelined with a thigh injury, while Stokes is recovering from a hamstring tear, ruling him out for the entire summer.

England T20I Squad: Jos Buttler (c), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Sam Curran, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, John Turner.

England ODI Squad: Jos Buttler (c), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Josh Hull, Will Jacks, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, Reece Topley, John Turner.
