Caribbean all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has officially replaced former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir as the new mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the IPL 2025 season. This appointment follows Gambhir’s departure from KKR, as he has taken on the role of head coach for the Indian men’s cricket team after leading KKR to their third IPL title in the previous season.

Bravo, who recently retired from all forms of cricket, joins KKR after serving as the bowling coach for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). His vast experience in T20 leagues worldwide, including his decade-long stint with Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), adds significant value to KKR’s management team.

In a statement to the media, Bravo expressed his enthusiasm for his new role: “I’ve been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders for the last 10 years in the CPL. Having played for and against the Knight Riders in various leagues, I have a lot of respect for how they operate. The owners’ passion, the professionalism of the management, and the family-like environment make it a special place.”

Reflecting on his transition from playing to mentoring, Bravo added, “This is the perfect platform for me as I move from playing to coaching the next generation of players.”

Bravo’s recent success as the bowling coach for the Afghanistan national team, which saw them reach their first-ever ICC semi-final, highlights his potential in this new role. With Bravo’s wealth of experience and leadership, it will be interesting to see how he shapes KKR’s squad ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction.
