Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently disclosed that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s participation in the upcoming 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) remains uncertain. The veteran cricketer, who has been a pillar of the CSK franchise, has yet to confirm his return for the 18th edition of the league.
Following the conclusion of IPL 2024, speculation about Dhoni’s future has been fueled by his ongoing battle with a knee injury. With the mega auction for IPL 2025 approaching, October 31 is the deadline for all franchises to finalize their list of retained players, leaving CSK fans eagerly awaiting Dhoni’s decision.
‘We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team’ – CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan
In a recent report quoted by India Today from Sports Vikatan, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan expressed the franchise’s desire for Dhoni to continue playing. He stated, “We also want Dhoni to play in the CSK team. But Dhoni has not confirmed it to us yet. Dhoni said, ‘I will tell you before October 31.’ We hope that he will play.”
Amid the uncertainty surrounding Dhoni’s involvement in IPL 2025, Shaji Ul Mulk, founder and chairman of T10 Global Sports, suggested that the iconic cricketer might explore opportunities outside the IPL in the future. He remarked, “Absolutely, I think outside of the top level of international cricketers playing, current India internationals are not allowed to play outside of the Indian Premier League. The recently retired players, almost all the big names of India, have come to play T10. So yes, we can expect MS Dhoni to be playing T10 when he makes up his mind.”
Dhoni, who led CSK to their fifth IPL title in 2023, handed over the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the 2024 season. Under Gaikwad’s leadership, CSK finished the 2024 season in fifth place, narrowly missing out on the playoffs but showing promising potential for the future.
