The Trinbago Knight Riders have announced the signing of off-spinner Bryan Charles to replace the veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who has retired following a groin injury. Bravo, who had been playing in what was expected to be his final Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season, was forced to end his campaign prematurely after sustaining the injury.
Bravo Retires From all formats of cricket
Bravo’s retirement from all forms of cricket marks the end of an illustrious career. The all-rounder had retired from international cricket in 2021 but continued playing in franchise leagues. His exit leaves a significant void in the Knight Riders squad, especially as injuries to other key players like Sunil Narine and Tim David have also impacted the team’s balance.
Bryan Charles, a 29-year-old off-spinner from Trinidad and Tobago, has yet to make his T20 international debut but has already earned a call-up to the West Indies Test squad earlier this year. He has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket, finishing as the leading wicket-taker for Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies’ four-day championship. Charles took 31 wickets in seven matches at an impressive average of 17, with a standout performance of 13 wickets against Jamaica in Kingston.
Trinbago Knight Riders captain Kieron Pollard expressed his gratitude to Bravo for his contributions, stating, “We want to thank him for all he has done for cricket.” Pollard also acknowledged the challenges posed by the squad’s injury issues, adding, “The injuries are a big concern, but we will continue to push forward and do our best.”
Charles’ addition brings hope to the injury-stricken Knight Riders as they look to remain competitive in the CPL despite the setbacks.
