The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has imposed a five-year ban on top-order batsman Ihsanullah Janat due to his involvement in match-fixing activities. The incident was uncovered during the second season of the Kabul Premier League, where Janat was found guilty of breaching the ACB and ICC code of conduct.
Ihsanullah Janat admitted to the charges under the ACB and ICC Anti-Corruption codes, confessing his role in the corrupt activities. Janat, who debuted for Afghanistan in 2017, had played three Tests, 16 ODIs, and one T20I for his national team. He was once seen as a prodigious talent with the potential to become a core member of the team.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board issued an official statement regarding the ban on the 26-year-old cricketer. Janat was found in violation of Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which pertains to improper influence or attempts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match.

“Janat was found guilty of violating Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which involves improper influence or efforts to fix the result, progress, conduct, or any other aspect of a match. In light of this violation, he has been handed a five-year ban from all cricket-related activities. Janat has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities,” the ACB stated.
In addition, the ACB Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) revealed that three other players are currently under suspicion of involvement in match-fixing. Investigations into these players are ongoing, and decisions regarding their involvement will be made upon confirmation of their guilt.

Ihsanullah Janat’s five-year ban not only marks a significant setback in his cricketing career but also deals a blow to the Afghanistan cricket team, which had high hopes for the promising young batsman.
