The Sunrisers Hyderabad batting sensation, Abhishek Sharma has showcased his batting brilliance by scoring a phenomenal century in India’s 2nd T20I match against Zimbabwe. The ongoing 5-match T20 series saw its second game unfold in Harare, where Sharma’s explosive performance led India to a commanding victory.
After struggling with form towards the end of the IPL season and in the first match of the series against Zimbabwe, Abhishek Sharma made a stellar comeback, smashing 100 runs off just 47 balls. His aggressive innings, marked by a strike rate of 212.77, included seven boundaries and eight towering sixes.
‘Even in the IPL, I asked for one of his bats’ – Abhishek Sharma
In a post-match ceremony, Abhishek Sharma credited his remarkable performance to the bat he borrowed from the team’s skipper, Shubman Gill. “Today I played with Shubman Gill’s bat. So a special thanks to the bat as well,” Sharma shared. He explained his long-standing tradition of using Gill’s bat in high-pressure situations, dating back to their under-12 days. “Whenever I think this is a pressure game, I usually take his bat. Even in the IPL, I asked for one of his bats, and today he gave me one. So I think it went really well,” Sharma said.
Trained by legendary Indian batter Yuvraj Singh, Sharma has adopted his mentor’s aggressive style, consistently attacking the bowlers from the outset.
India’s next match against Zimbabwe is scheduled for July 10 in Harare, where Sharma will look to continue his stellar form.
