Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra recently shared his thoughts on the form of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli ahead of the second Test against Bangladesh. After India’s comprehensive win in the first Test, the team is gearing up for the final Test in Kanpur starting on September 27. However, Chopra weighed in on the batting performances of Rohit and Kohli, who struggled in the first match.
‘They played in the T20 World Cup final and both left at an amazing high’ – Aakash Chopra
In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra mentioned that the dip in form is not alarming yet, but could become a concern if it continues for an extended period. “I will say it’s not a concern. It happens at times that runs aren’t scored. Runs not getting scored could be a concern if it’s a long patch. They played in the T20 World Cup final and both left at an amazing high,” Chopra stated, adding that the duo needed some rest after the World Cup before heading to the ODI series in Sri Lanka.
Chopra further emphasized that not participating in domestic cricket, such as the Duleep Trophy, may have contributed to their slow start in the Test series. He remarked, “Maybe it would have been better if they had played because there is no hesitation or shame in playing.”
In the first Test, Rohit managed just 11 runs across two innings, falling to slip fielders off the pacers. Kohli, with 23 runs across both innings, was dismissed controversially in the second innings after refusing a review that later showed an inside edge.
As the second Test approaches, all eyes will be on how Rohit and Virat respond, with the hopes that they return to form and help India secure the series win against Bangladesh.
