Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members recently got involved in a brutal brawl with the Australian cricketers during day five of the second test match of the Ashes 2023. It seems Alex Carey’s controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow didn’t sit right with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members.
The viral incident took place as the Australian batting openers, Usman Khawaja and David Warner were heading back to the dressing room in the famous Lord’s long room in London. The two matters were seen arguing with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members as their television footage went viral on social media.
Regretting the incident caused by their members, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) recently released a press release condemning the act and confirming that they have suspended the three wrongdoers. An investigation was also proposed as the Australian cricket team skipper, Pat Cummins confirmed that the players were physically assaulted as well during the brawl.
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Press Release
The MCC apologised on behalf of their members to the players, as well as the Australian Cricket Board, cricket, and Australia for the misbehaviour and misconduct that took place.
“MCC can confirm it has suspended three Members identified earlier today. They will not be permitted back to Lord’s whilst the investigation takes place,” said the statement by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
“We maintain that the behaviour of a small number of Members was completely unacceptable, and whilst there was no suggestion by Pat Cummins in the post-match press conference that there was any physical altercation, it remains wholly unacceptable to behave in such a way, which goes against the values of the Club,” said the press release.
“MCC condemns the behaviour witnessed and once again we re-iterate our apology to Cricket Australia. We are thoroughly disappointed to be talking about poor behaviour when the Long Room, as stated by Pat Cummins himself, is otherwise renowned for being “really welcoming”. It has been a thrilling day to finish off a wonderful five days of Test cricket,” concluded the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) statement.
