Delhi Capitals are planning a major change to their coaching and leadership setup ahead of IPL 2027. Sourav Ganguly is reportedly set to become the head coach. Yuvraj Singh is also expected to join the franchise as batting coach.
The changes come as JSW Group prepares to take operational control of Delhi Capitals from IPL 2027. The franchise is looking to build a new structure under the management.
ESPNcricinfo reported in June that Ganguly and Yuvraj have been lined up for senior roles. However, Delhi Capitals are yet to make an official announcement.
Yuvraj could take charge of the batting department. It would be his first IPL coaching role. The former India all-rounder has already worked with young batters such as Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. His experience has helped him build a reputation as a batting mentor.
Ganguly also has coaching experience. He became JSW’s director of cricket in 2024. He later worked as head coach of Pretoria Capitals during SA20 2025.
Delhi Capitals also plan changes to coaching staff
The new setup could see major changes to the existing backroom team. Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani, Munaf Patel and Ian Bell are all reportedly likely to leave.
Delhi Capitals finished sixth in IPL 2026. The disappointing campaign has increased the need for a fresh approach.
Ganguly and Yuvraj were recently seen at a Delhi Capitals training and talent-identification camp at Just Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. Former India spinner Amit Mishra was also involved in assessing bowling talent.
The franchise has also brought Rishabh Pant back ahead of IPL 2027. Pant left Lucknow Super Giants in June 2026. Kuldeep Yadav moved in the opposite direction as part of the deal.
Pant has returned to Delhi Capitals for INR 15 crore. He previously played nine seasons for the franchise. He made 111 appearances and captained the team for four seasons.
His return could give Delhi Capitals an experienced leader as the franchise begins a new era.
