Rishabh Pant has become the latest captain to be fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The offence took place during Lucknow Super Giants’ home victory against Chennai Super Kings on May 15.
This was the first slow over-rate offence for Pant and LSG this season. As per Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Pant has been fined INR 12 lakh.
The IPL rules state that captains receive an INR 12 lakh fine for the first offence. A second offence leads to a bigger penalty of INR 24 lakh.
Slow over-rate penalties continue in IPL 2026
Slow over-rates have become a major issue in IPL 2026. Several captains have already been punished this season for the same reason.
Earlier this week, Axar Patel was also fined INR 12 lakh after Delhi Capitals maintained a slow over-rate during their win against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala.
Other captains who have faced similar punishment include Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.
Despite a difficult season, LSG are ending their campaign strongly. They recently defeated defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru before beating CSK at home.
LSG chased down a target of 188 with more than three overs remaining. Australian opener Mitchell Marsh played a match-winning knock of 90 runs from just 38 balls.
Even after the victories, LSG remain at the bottom of the points table. However, they are now level on points with Mumbai Indians and only one point behind Kolkata Knight Riders.
