Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has shared his thoughts on MS Dhoni and his chances of playing in the Indian Premier League 2026 season. He believes Dhoni is unlikely to feature in the remaining matches.
Chennai Super Kings are currently in a strong position. They are sixth in the points table. The team has 10 points from 10 matches. They are just two points away from the playoff spots. The race is very tight.
Ashwin feels that bringing Dhoni into the team now could disturb the balance. He said the current combination is working well. He does not want any major changes at this stage of the tournament.
Ashwin suggests possible farewell game
Ashwin, however, did not rule out a special moment for Dhoni. He said Dhoni could play one last match if CSK fail to reach the playoffs. This could be a farewell game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
“If MS Dhoni comes, then the combination will be changed. It becomes very difficult, so I think there are very slim chances [of making a comeback]. If they lose two of their next three games, then he might get a farewell game in Chennai,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
CSK’s final home match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18. This could be the perfect occasion if Dhoni returns.
Dhoni is still part of the squad. But he has not played a single match this season. He is recovering from a calf injury. At 44, this could be his final IPL season.
Meanwhile, CSK are gaining momentum. Under captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, they have won their last two games. Their latest win came against Delhi Capitals. They won the match by eight wickets.
