RCB’s Phil Salt flies to UK for finger injury scans during IPL 2026

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Phil Salt has returned to the United Kingdom for medical scans after suffering a finger injury in IPL 2026. The injury has already ruled him out of the last three matches. The update was reported by ESPNcricinfo on Monday.

Salt’s absence is likely to continue for a few more matches. This means young batter Jacob Bethell will keep opening the innings for RCB. Bethell has been filling in at the top of the order since Salt got injured.

RCB have not released an official statement about the injury. However, reports suggest that Salt injured his left hand during a match against Delhi Capitals on April 18. He was trying to stop the ball near the deep backward square leg boundary. During the effort, he hurt a finger on his left hand.

Before the injury, Salt was in excellent form. He scored 202 runs in six innings. His strike rate was 168.33. He gave RCB quick and attacking starts in most matches. His performances played a key role at the top of the batting order.

RCB hopeful of Salt’s return soon

The report said that both the player and the franchise are hopeful about a quick recovery. They expect Salt to return to India later this month. His return will be important as RCB aim to defend their IPL title this season.

Salt had earlier spoken highly about the team environment. He praised director of cricket Mo Bobat, head coach Andy Flower, and mentor Dinesh Karthik. He looked comfortable and confident in the setup.

The injury comes at a bad time for Salt. He had just found his rhythm in the IPL after a quiet campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with England.

Meanwhile, RCB are currently on a short break. The team is being led by Rajat Patidar this season. They recently lost to the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.

Some players have travelled to the Maldives during the break. RCB will next face the Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday. Fans will be hoping Salt recovers quickly and returns to strengthen the squad.
